Tomato Pappu
















Ingredients :

Toor Dal 1 cup(Kandi pappu)
Tomatoes 1 big
Onion 1/2 small
Green Chillies 7
Garlic Cloves 6 (crushed)
Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
Tamarind Pulp or Lemon 1 tsp
(Cumin seeds&Fenugreek) Powder pinch (Jilakara mentula podi)

For Seasoning :

Red chillies 3 (broken)
Urad dal 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves 6
Oil 1 tbsp

Preparation :

Wash toor dal with water 4-5 times, pour 2 1/2 cups water.Cut onion, Tomatoes,
slit and cut green chilly .Add all the above with turmeric powder to toordal.
Pressure cook it for 3 whistles.

Open it after 5 min, then add salt , (cumin seeds & fenugreek)
powder,and tamarind pulp or lemon to cooked dal.
Keep it on flame for few more minutes,off the flame.

Seasoning :

Heat oil in a small pan (popu garita). Add red chilly, stir for few seconds.
Then add urad dal,cumin seeds,mustard seeds,
when it splutter add curry leaves,garlic,pinch of turmeric powder.
Remove from the flame.Pour on to prepared dal.

Serve it with Chapati or Rice.
